Cerebral arterial occlusive disease
Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of CAVK - Stroke prevention
The four carotid arteries supply the brain with blood. Ultrasound can be used to examine their blood flow in a painless way. This is used for the early detection of blood fat deposits (intima-media thickness), calcification or narrowing of the blood vessels, which can lead to circulatory disorders and, in the worst case, to a stroke.

Treatment procedure
Stroke prevention
A typical assessment and treatment for cerebral arterial occlusive disease (CAVD) includes ultrasound of the carotid arteries, angiography of the carotid and cephalic arteries using magnetic resonance angiography or contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the skull, and a clinical neurological examination.
Endovascular treatment of cerebral arterial occlusive disease (CABD) involves an interventional procedure in which an underlying constriction in the blood vessel is stretched (angioplasty) and supported from the inside (stent implantation).
