The initial consultation

Preoperative examinations
Before a corrective surgery, important examinations should definitely be carried out. In addition to a precise hormone examination, an ultrasound examination or mammography of the breast is also necessary.
Ten days before the procedure, no blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin, should be taken.

The gynecomastia operation
The operation is usually performed under general anesthesia, in some cases also under twilight sleep. An internal surgical clearance is standardly required.
The duration of the operation is approximately 1-2 hours. The enlarged mammary gland is removed through an incision originating at the areola. In some cases, an additional Liposuction performed to improve the breast shape. If there is additional excess skin, the skin around the areola can be tightened.
In pseudogynecomastia, liposuction is usually the method of choice. If the excess skin is too large, an breast lift necessary.
With an uncomplicated intra- and postoperative course, a day-clinic stay is sufficient. If required, an inpatient stay is possible.
Postoperative course
After the operation, a compression bandage is applied. Later, the compression bandage can be replaced by a compression shirt, which you will wear day and night for another 6 weeks. Pay particular attention to physical rest. Sports should not be performed in the 6 weeks after the operation. Showering is possible 1 to 2 days after the operation with shower plasters.
