What does the perfect female mouth look like?
In a study by a surgical team led by Natalie Popenko of the University of California, around 580 participants were shown various female faces with different mouths, which they were asked to rate. The researchers related the size of the mouths to the rest of the face. The mouths were altered in 5 different sizes – significantly reduced and up to 250% larger. Then, in a second round, for the most popular faces, the variations of the lower-to-upper lip ratio were changed.
The result of this study showed that a mouth in which the lower lip is approximately twice as large as the upper lip is perceived as the most attractive.
According to the study, the most attractive lips were those in which the lower lip is twice as large as the upper lip. The ideal lips occupy about 10% of the lower third of the face. These study results can serve as a guideline for lip treatments.
