What does the perfect female mouth look like?
In a study conducted by a team of surgeons led by Natalie Popenko from the University of California, around 580 test subjects were presented with various female faces with different mouths and asked to rate them. The researchers compared the size of the mouths to the rest of the face. The mouths were altered in 5 different sizes - significantly smaller and up to 250% larger. Then, in a second round, the variations in the ratio of lower to upper lip were changed for the most popular faces.
The result of this study showed that a mouth where the lower lip is approximately twice the size of the upper lip is perceived as the most beautiful.
According to the study, the most attractive lips were those where the lower lip was twice the size of the upper lip. The ideal lips take up around 10% of the lower third of the face. These results of the study can serve as a guideline for lip treatments.
