Reasons for breast reduction or lift

A breast that is too large or too sagging can be a great burden. Some women suffer from it – but not only aesthetic reasons, other factors can also speak in favor of a breast reduction or lift. If the breast is too large, its weight can cause significant discomfort in the shoulder and back area. This weight burden can lead over the years to a rounded back and spinal problems. In women with breasts that are too large, the spine is permanently in the wrong position. A breast reduction therefore also helps prevent later spinal damage. In the case of breast malformations there are also breast asymmetries, which can not only be aesthetically disturbing but can also lead to poor posture.

Breast reduction: The operation

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. An internal surgical clearance is routinely required. After the operation, a wound dressing and a breast compression bandage are applied.

With an uncomplicated intra- and postoperative course, a day-clinic stay is sufficient. If required, an inpatient stay is possible.

Postoperative course

The wound dressing can usually be completely removed after 8 to 10 days, so you can shower without shower plasters from that time. Absorbable (self-dissolving) sutures are used, so no stitches need to be removed.

The breast compression bandage can be replaced by a sports bra on the 3rd day after the operation. This should be worn day and night for a period of 6 weeks. It is also important not to sleep on your stomach for 6 weeks.
