Botox® treatment at JUVENIS in Vienna

Bruxism (night-time teeth grinding)

At the JUVENIS medical center in Vienna, experienced specialists not only use Botox® to treat excessive sweating, migraines and mimic wrinkles. It is also used to treat bruxism, the unconscious grinding of teeth that usually occurs at night.

Botox® leads to muscle relaxation of the overactive chewing muscles that are responsible for teeth grinding and thus in most cases to more relaxed sleeping behavior. The treatment of bruxism with Botox® provides long-lasting, excellent results. Often only a few treatments are necessary for a lasting result.

FAQs

Botox specifically relaxes the masseter muscle (chewing muscle), which is overactive when teeth are ground. By weakening muscle activity, grinding, clenching and the associated discomfort are significantly reduced - without impairing normal chewing function.

It is suitable for patients who suffer from night-time teeth grinding, jaw clenching, jaw pain, tension headaches or worn teeth. The treatment is particularly helpful when conventional measures such as dental splints do not help sufficiently.

Our doctors inject a precisely coordinated amount of Botox directly into the chewing muscle using a very fine needle. The treatment only takes 5-10 minutes and is uncomplicated. You can return to your daily routine immediately afterwards.

The injections are well tolerated. You will usually only feel a brief prick. An anesthetic cream is not usually necessary, but can be applied on request.

The effect begins after about 5-7 days, the full result is usually seen after 2 weeks. Many patients report significant relief of the jaw during the first few nights.

The effect lasts an average of 3-6 months. With regular use, the chewing muscles can relax in the long term, which can also reduce the frequency of treatments.

Possible side effects include slight swelling or small bruises at the injection sites, which disappear quickly. In rare cases, there may be a short-term feeling of weakness in the treated muscle. Overall, the treatment is considered safe and well tolerated.

Yes - if the chewing muscles are more pronounced, Botox can slim down the muscle over time. This makes the lower half of the face appear narrower and more harmonious. This effect is an additional aesthetic benefit, but is not essential for the treatment to be effective.

Botox can be combined well with occlusal splints, stress management, physiotherapy or TMJ treatment. Our doctors will recommend the optimal combination for you.

The cost depends on the level of muscle activity and the quantity required:

from approx. € 350-€ 550 per session
You will receive a detailed cost overview during your consultation.

As a rule, the costs are not covered by health insurance, as the treatment is an optional service. You will receive a fee note for private billing.
