Thyroid examination at JUVENIS in Vienna

Examination of the thyroid gland

The main function of the thyroid gland is to store iodine and produce the iodine-containing thyroid hormones triiodothyronine and thyroxine as well as the peptide hormone calcitonin. The follicular epithelial cells of this gland (thyrocytes) produce iodine-containing thyroid hormones and play an important role in the energy metabolism and growth of individual cells and the organism as a whole.

This important organ is the starting point for many diseases, which means that hormone metabolism disorders can lead to hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. These dysfunctions often have a major impact on well-being.
