Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of peripheral circulatory disorders
At the JUVENIS Medical Center in Vienna, Dr. Christoph Kopp is dedicated, among other things, to the health of the VeinsFor this purpose, he examines the legs using ultrasound for peripheral circulatory disorders.
The current peripheral vascular situation is evaluated, in addition to the clinical examination, by oscillography and peripheral arterial pressure measurement to determine the ankle/brachial index (ABI).

Treatment procedure
An evaluation for peripheral problems (circulatory disorders), such as a limitation of pain-free walking distance with or without open skin lesions (ulcers), initially consists of an outpatient assessment. This is usually followed by an imaging, non-invasive procedure such as computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) of the pelvic and leg arteries. These are used to plan a minimally invasive intervention. For differential diagnosis, an orthopedic evaluation including imaging of the lumbar spine is also carried out.
A dermatological examination is standard. For the conservative treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), "vasoactive" infusions are used to improve blood circulation. To restore blood flow, the underlying narrowing in the blood vessel is dilated using balloon dilation (angioplasty), possibly followed by the implantation of a vascular support (stent).
