Advice and treatment at JUVENIS in Vienna
Osteoporosis and osteopenia
The word "osteoporosis" means loss of bone mass. In itself, this is a natural process. From the age of 30, everyone experiences a reduction in bone mass. In women, this happens more strongly and earlier than in men due to the loss of oestrogen during the menopause.
These changes increase the risk of bone fractures. You should therefore take care of your bones. It is advisable for women to have their bone health checked from the age of 65 and for men from the age of 70. In the case of illnesses (e.g. gastrointestinal, cardiopulmonary) or if you are taking medication such as Marcumar or cortisone for more than 3 months, a check-up is also advisable at a younger age.
One aim is the early detection of osteoporosis and an increased risk of bone fractures in order to be able to initiate treatment in good time, which often does not have to involve medication. We at JUVENIS will be happy to advise you and initiate, implement and accompany any therapeutic measures.

Symptoms of osteoporosis
Osteoporosis usually develops slowly and does not show symptoms immediately. It is only later that persistent pain in the back or legs occurs. Another indication is frequent bone fractures, which sometimes occur without any recognizable cause or as a result of atraumatic falls. Typical symptoms of osteoporosis are fractures near the hip (e.g. a femur fracture), fractures of the upper and lower arm or vertebral body fractures.
Other symptoms include decreasing height or an increasingly hunched back ("widow's hump").

This disease is not only a physical burden, it also usually restricts the patient's quality of life immensely. For fear of further fractures, patients very often become unsteady when walking or avoid movement more and more. This leads to a vicious circle, as muscle strength also dwindles and the risk of falling increases further.

Osteoporosis and osteopenia treatment and advice
Osteoporosis therapy is made up of many components. Early diagnosis and treatment are very important so that bone loss can be slowed down as quickly as possible. If there is a need for therapeutic intervention, the appropriate therapy is individually adapted to the patient.
Treatment procedure

*For these parameters, however, the blood sample must be taken on an empty stomach - preferably in the morning).
X-ray and bone densitometry
Please also bring an X-ray of the thoracic and lumbar spine or a bone density measurement with you. I will be happy to issue you with the necessary referral.
In my practice, you will be informed and advised in detail during a personal consultation. The treatment plan will be customized according to your diagnosis, taking into account the severity of the disease as well as the causes and risk factors.
