Treatment procedure

In a couperose treatment with IPL, short light pulses from a flash lamp are emitted that then penetrate the skin. The light is directed into the blood vessels to be treated. Blood contains hemoglobin. This absorbs the light and converts it into heat. The heat produced destroys the small capillaries, which then gradually disappear in a safe way.

Depending on the size of the treated area, the treatment of couperose (acne rosacea I°) with IPL usually takes between 15 and 45 minutes. During and after the treatment, slight swelling or redness may occur, which generally disappear within a few days. To adequately protect the treated and very sensitive skin, sun protection of SPF 50+ is essential.

We recommend an intensive course of 2 to 5 treatments at intervals of 3 to 4 weeks each and then an annual refresher treatment.

Before the IPL treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and cleared of make‑up or other products. Attention: the skin must not be tanned prior to the treatment. Protective goggles are worn during the laser treatment to protect the eyes from the intense light.

During the IPL treatment a handpiece is used that emits the IPL light. The handpiece is gently moved over the skin and the light pulses are targeted at the affected areas. The light pulses can be perceived as a slight tingling or prickling. The settings are, of course, adjusted to the individual needs of the patient to achieve optimal results.

Mild swelling or redness that may occur during the IPL treatment typically subsides after a few days.

At JUVENIS a soothing cream and a sun protection are applied after the IPL treatment. Finally, you will receive instructions for skin care, such as applying a soothing cream and avoiding sun exposure.

FAQs

Couperose is a dilation of the fine blood vessels in the face – especially on the cheeks, nose and chin. The skin appears permanently reddened, often accompanied by visible capillaries. If left untreated, this can develop into rosacea, a chronic skin disease with inflammatory changes.

Causes are often a genetic predisposition, sensitive skin, excessive UV exposure, temperature fluctuations, alcohol, spicy foods or stress. Hormonal influences can also play a role.

At JUVENIS couperose is gently treated with state‑of‑the‑art laser technology (Laser Nordlys from Candela) is used. The laser specifically heats the dilated blood vessels so that they close and are broken down by the body – the skin appears more even and calmer again.

Most patients experience the treatment as hardly painful. A slight warming sensation or a short pricking may occur. On request, a numbing cream can be applied before the treatment.

Depending on the severity, usually 2 to 4 treatments at intervals of several weeks are required to achieve an optimal result. Our doctors will advise you individually on this.

After the treatment, redness and visible capillaries are usually significantly reduced. The skin appears calmer, fresher and more even. Initial improvements are often visible after the first session.

After the laser treatment you should avoid direct sun exposure and sauna visits for about 1–2 weeks. Use a daily sun protection with a high sun protection factor (SPF 50+) to optimally protect the skin.

Occasionally redness or mild swelling may occur, which subside after a short time. The treatment is safe and is performed exclusively by experienced physicians.

Costs depend on the treated area and the extent of the treatment.

The initial consultation costs € 190, a full face IPL couperose treatment € 290 and a partial face IPL couperose treatment (e.g. only nose, or only cheeks, or only chin) € 200 to € 250. Additional regions cost plus € 50 to € 150.

A precise cost estimate will be provided during the consultation.

Since this is an aesthetic treatment, the costs are usually not covered by health insuranceYou will receive a detailed invoice for private reimbursement.
