Botox (botulinum toxin) is indeed used as a treatment for bruxism (teeth grinding). Bruxism is a condition in which people unconsciously clench or grind their teeth, often during sleep, which can lead to tooth damage, jaw pain, headaches, and other complaints.
Nighttime teeth grinding – bruxism treatment with Botox®
How does Botox work for bruxism?
Botox is injected into the masticatory muscles, particularly the masseter muscle (the muscle most commonly used during teeth grinding). The toxin weakens the muscles without completely paralyzing them, which reduces the intensity of teeth grinding. The muscles relax and the pressure on the teeth and jaw is reduced.
