Skin cancer screening: What does a melanoma look like?

Almost everyone has moles. Over the course of our lives new ones can appear, or changes can occur. Only experienced dermatologists can determine whether a mole is harmless. For this reason, regular mole checks — skin cancer screening with a specialist — are so important.

We show you an example of how inconspicuous and small a melanoma can be. Image 1 shows a melanoma that was detected early by dermatologist Dr. Tamara Kopp (see arrow). The suspicion was histologically confirmed after removal.
