Burnout, anxiety disorders, addiction: despite seemingly ideal living conditions, more and more people are affected by mental illness and its consequences. And when the soul suffers, the reflection in the mirror also looks unhappy. The Juvenis Aesthetic Medical Center addresses both sides: Prof. Dr. Tamara Kopp's team is dedicated to body & soul - the inner and outer beauty and health as well as the psyche of each patient.

Mr. Spock would probably wiggle his ears wildly if he could see the world we live in today. Nothing is impossible, freedom seems limitless. We can believe in whatever we want, live partnerships as we imagine them in our wildest dreams, work whatever we like. And if we want, we can even reinvent ourselves every day. Wonderland? Not quite. Because where there is light, there is always shadow. And this manifests itself in a certain loss of structure: today, there are few social stabilizers such as faith and church, the traditional family and lifelong job security. Everything is in a constant state of flux and change.

The result: mental illnesses are on the rise. According to recent publications, around 1.2 million people in Austria alone have mental health problems. "Not only stigmatized marginalized groups are affected, but the general population," says Dr. Jutta Leth, specialist in psychiatry & psychotherapeutic medicine, "Only rapid action and specialist and therapeutic interventions prevent symptoms from becoming illnesses."

Man is body & soul

It is not for nothing that the WHO calls the 21st century the century of neuronal-mental illnesses: Depression, dementia, anxiety disorders, addiction, ADHD, personality development disorders, burn-out etc. are considered to be the greatest future health challenges. Studies report a 65% increase in psychologically-related hospital days, a doubling of psychologically-related absences from work and an increase in early retirement. The psychotropic drug market is booming, as is the use of addictive drugs. And stress is no longer just a problem for managers: according to a study by the Chamber of Labor, 40 percent of workers and employees complain of stress, demotivation, exhaustion and overwork.

JUVENIS takes a progressive approach to the problem with a holistic approach to health. "Our goal is to strengthen the inner and outer beauty of every person, to keep them healthy and, if necessary, to heal them," says Jürgen Steurer, clinical and health psychologist. Maintaining or restoring inner radiance is part of the JUVENIS concept. "People are made up of body and soul. That's why psychological therapies, medical treatments and aesthetic interventions go hand in hand." Only a healthy mix makes you happy and satisfied and therefore ultimately beautiful.

Generation "higher, faster, further"

In a world where everything is possible, the pressure to exploit all these possibilities is naturally growing. The demand is for: Eternal youth and continuous growth; physical limits are simply ignored. The magic formula: Self-responsibility, self-organization and self-construction are chic and the measure of all things. At the same time, traditions and our family structure are increasingly disintegrating: Patchwork and single households provide little support and religion has had its day. The question of belonging and meaning must therefore be dealt with differently. Unfortunately, there is still no instruction manual for this life in the fast lane. We are all confronted with more and more needs that compete with each other: "We want freedom and security, autonomy and control, publicity and intimacy at the same time - and are surprised when our souls tear apart sooner or later," says Jürgen Steurer.

Who is mentally ill?

Of course, a sick soul is not as easy to diagnose as a cold. "It's often a tightrope walk between pathologizing and trivializing," says Dr. Jutta Leth. Constant anxiety, recurring sadness and despair, the inability to deal with a life crisis, sleep disorders, eating disorders, health problems for which the doctor cannot find a physical cause - these are all alarm signals. It is important to seek help quickly: "Early intervention prevents symptoms from becoming chronic illnesses and leading to restrictions in social, family or health-related life," says Dr. Jutta Leth.

Protection & umbrella

JUVENIS reaches out a helping hand. It offers advice and support, diagnosis and medication, therapy concepts and preventive measures - all under one roof. "We accompany our patients, but also give them specific tools they can work with to get or stay healthy." Empathy, emotion control, impulse control, frustration tolerance and the development of coping strategies are at the top of the tool list. "We focus on realistic optimism," says Dr. Jutta Leth. "In other words, we help patients set realistic goals where setbacks don't discourage them and they experience a sense of purpose."

At JUVENIS, quick appointments and a pleasant atmosphere are just as much a part of the service as the interdisciplinary cooperation between all doctors. For every mental health problem, a clear treatment concept, good manageability and the ability to integrate the treatment into everyday life are important and indispensable for success.

The goal at JUVENIS is a more beautiful world in the truest sense of the word, in which every person feels healthy, comfortable and beautiful in their role, their environment and ultimately in their skin. "Recognizing the connection between beauty, mental and physical health and implementing and living it medically is a matter close to our hearts," says co-founder Prof. Dr. Tamara Kopp. "What's more, it is also our task as modern doctors - and our mission as human beings."
