Early detection of melanoma can save lives - as shown by the case of a patient who presented to Dr. Tamara Kopp for a routine skin examination at our dermatology practice. Thanks to the expert examination by the dermatologist, a conspicuous skin change was identified and diagnosed at an early stage.

During the examination, Dr. Tamara Kopp noticed a pigment change that stood out from the other moles in terms of color, shape and size. By using modern diagnostic techniques such as dermoscopy, she was able to identify initial indications of a malignant change. For final clarification, a tissue sample was taken and examined in the laboratory - with the result that it was indeed an early-stage melanoma.

If melanoma is detected early, the chance of a complete cure increases. At JUVENIS, the treatment of skin cancer or dermatosurgical removal is carried out by experienced dermatologists.

Melanoma under the macro lens: a close-up of the danger

To the naked eye, a melanoma may often just look like a dark spot - but under extreme magnification, a fascinating yet disturbing structure is revealed. Macro images of a malignant melanoma show a chaotic mosaic of irregular pigmentation, asymmetrical edges and color transitions ranging from deep black to dark brown to reddish or even bluish inclusions.

The uneven distribution of color pigments is a typical sign of malignant skin changes. While benign moles are often evenly colored and clearly defined, a melanoma appears uneven and fringed under the microscope - a warning signal for dermatologists. In extreme close-up, tiny blood vessels and microscopic bumps are also visible, indicating uncontrolled cell growth.

This magnification shows impressively why early detection is so important. Even the smallest changes, which are barely visible to the naked eye, can become conspicuous under macroscopic or dermoscopic magnification. Thanks to modern imaging techniques, melanomas can now be diagnosed earlier than ever before - a decisive advantage for the chances of recovery.

A close look at the skin can save lives. Anyone who notices new or changing moles should not hesitate to consult a dermatologist.
