After a day in the sun, many people like to use after-sun creams to soothe and care for their skin. But are they really useful? Are there differences?

In the daily newspaper Kurier, Prof. Dr. Tamara Kopp provides information on after-sun creams

In an interview with the daily newspaper Kurier, Prof. Dr. Tamara Kopp explains what you should look out for in an after-sun cream:

  • Avoid alcohol-based additives
  • Be careful with chamomile or marigold extracts and fragrances - many people are allergic to them
  • the cream should be absorbed quickly
  • should not contain carcinogenic MOAH (mineral oil hydrocarbons)

After-sun creams with ingredients such as aloe vera, camomile or witch hazel are recommended as they have a soothing and cooling effect. The added glycerine also protects against dehydration and panthenol stimulates the skin's cell division, which promotes regeneration.

In the event of severe sunburn (blistering, peeling skin, open wounds), always consult a doctor immediately.
