TV interview with Prof. Dr. Tamara Kopp about scabies
In an interview with Schau-TV, Prof. Dr. Tamara Kopp provides information about scabies, how it is contracted and how it is treated.
Scabies is a parasitic skin disease that is transmitted through intensive skin contact. The symptoms are characterized by severe itching and a rash. It is caused by a mite, specifically the fertilized female mites. These dig small tunnels into the skin and lay their eggs there. They usually enter the skin in thin areas, such as under the armpits, between the fingers or toes.
It is essential to treat the disease as it will not heal on its own. Scabies is treated with a special cream. In addition, clothing and bedding should be washed at 60 degrees or packed in an airtight plastic bag for a few days. It is also advisable to treat people in the same household at the same time.
