International Sunscreen Day is on the calendar for May 27. In keeping with this important topic, the dermatologists at JUVENIS in Vienna want to provide information about the right sun protection today. After all, the right sunscreen and sun protection is an important step in the prevention of white and black skin cancer.

The right sun protection

There is a wide range of sun protection products on the market. It is always important to use the right sun protection factor. The SPF level must be adapted to the skin type and the length of time spent in the sun. In general, it can be assumed that people with light skin and light hair have a shorter self-protection time. They should apply sunscreen more often. In this blog post, Prof. Dr. Tamara Kopp explains which products are suitable for which skin type and how often you should apply sunscreen.

Sun protection for children

Suitable sun protection is particularly important for children and babies. We also want to provide information about this on today's Sunscreen Day. Because young children in particular have special requirements when it comes to care products. Dr. Elli Greisenegger explains what these are in an article on the right sun protection for babies. In addition to sunscreen, children should also wear protective clothing such as sun hats or light clothing.

Sunscreen in everyday life

When we go swimming or on vacation, we usually remember to apply enough sunscreen to protect ourselves from sunburn and skin cancer. But we also expose ourselves to the sun on our daily commute to work or in our free time. As well as causing dangerous skin cancer, UV rays also age our skin more quickly. This makes it all the more important to remember to use sun cream in everyday life too. A day cream with a sun protection factor often makes a big difference here.

Prevention and control

You are ideally protected if you combine your daily sun protection routine with regular skin checks. On Sunscreen Day, we would therefore like to draw your attention to the birthmark check-up (skin cancer screening), which should ideally be carried out once a year. At JUVENIS in Vienna, we offer you this preventive examination using modern digital reflected light microscopy. Your images and findings from this examination are stored by us so that they can be compared with the new images at your next check-up. This enables us to detect even small changes as early as possible. If skin cancer is actually diagnosed during the examination, we can remove it immediately using dermatosurgery.
