In our last news, we reported that dermatologists expect an increase in skin cancer due to climate change and how important good sun protection and skin cancer prevention are. Protecting the skin from the sun's rays is still underestimated and sun protection must become routine for everyone. Summer - like winter!
The earlier skin cancer is detected, the better the chances of recovery. Regular self-examination of the skin and moles to detect changes is essential (ABCDE rule). If you notice any abnormalities, contact your trusted dermatologist immediately to have the changes clarified. Visit a dermatologist once a year for a mole check or skin cancer screening. If skin cancer is detected early, it can be treated effectively with the appropriate therapy.
How is skin cancer treated?
There are 2 types of skin cancer:
- malignant melanoma: the most dangerous type of skin cancer, which originates from the pigment-producing cells of the skin
- White skin cancer: This includes basal cell cancer, actinic keratoses and prickle cell cancer.
At JUVENIS, experienced dermatologists use dermatoscopy (reflected light microscopy) to examine changes in the skin in order to rule out any abnormalities. If skin changes are found, they are examined in a special dermatohistopathology laboratory. The findings form the basis for further forms of therapy, which are discussed with the patient.
Various forms of treatment are available for skin cancer. Dermatosurgery is one of JUVENIS' specialties and - depending on the diagnosis - can also be performed in-house at JUVENIS on an outpatient basis.
Superficial tumors such as actinic keratoses (precursors of white skin cancer), Bowen's disease and superficial basal cell carcinomas (white skin cancer) are treated at JUVENIS using various forms of therapy. These include ointment therapy, cryotherapy, dermatosurgery or photodynamic therapy (PDT). This gentle form of therapy specifically destroys the tumor cells while sparing the healthy surrounding tissue. At the same time, it is painless, delivers very attractive cosmetic results and also scores points for its proven long-term effectiveness.
Our surgical spectrum includes all benign and malignant skin changes, such as melanoma (black skin cancer), spinocellular carcinoma (spiny cell carcinoma), basal cell carcinoma (basal cell carcinoma), actinic keratosis, atypical/dysplastic nevus (conspicuous birthmark) or other rare malignant skin tumors (e.g. fibrosarcoma, Merkel cell carcinoma).
We pay particular attention to the latest surgical and suturing techniques and provide you with the best possible aesthetic result.
