At the beginning of May, the daily newspaper Kurier published an article on the subject of sun protection. Under the title "Towards the sun", Prof. Dr. Tamara Kopp from JUVENIS explained the importance of sun protection and how to incorporate it into your daily routine. She also cleared up myths surrounding sun cream. She also emphasized that sun protection should be a matter of course and should be applied every day. UV damage that occurs in childhood and adolescence becomes noticeable in adulthood. Malignant melanomas, white skin cancer and skin ageing can be the result of too much sun.

Sun protection: The filter myth

One of the most topical issues surrounding proper sun protection is that of filters, as Dr. Kopp explains in an interview. This is because many chemical filters are suspected of being harmful to health. However, modern chemical filters are often preferable to mineral filters. Older chemical variants such as the octocrylene filter are problematic. In an interview with Kurier, the JUVENIS dermatologist advises checking the list of ingredients on sun products for outdated filters such as homosalate, benzophenone, mineral filters and octocrylene. Many sunscreens already state on the packaging that they do not contain the latter filter.

Make UV protection part of your routine

Dr. Kopp's most important tip on sun protection in an interview with the Kurier? It must become a routine! Not only on vacation or during leisure time, but above all in daily life. Ideally, it should be part of the daily morning routine. This is the best way for patients to prevent long-term damage such as skin ageing and skin cancer. This is best supplemented with an annual mole check by a dermatologist.
